Diesel engines emit less CO2
Due to its higher combustion efficiency, a diesel engine will emit 20-40% less of the greenhouse gas CO2 than an equivalent gasoline engine, a significant reduction. In environmentally conscious Europe, diesel has captured more than 50% of the passenger vehicle market. Diesel use is increasing in the US and other regions too, and, with a focus on diesel as an environmentally friendly technology, this trend is set to continue. In the maritime sector, the emissions standards from the US EPA mandate stricter restrictions on diesel engines than on gasoline outboard engines.
